UNION'S NEW SCHOOL BUILDING Union, June 27-Work on the new school building at Monarch Mills, Union's eastern suburb is progressing finely. The building will be quite a large one, being 56X54 feet, not including piazzas and will be splendidly lighted as it has many large windows which will prove of great benefit to the pupils. . . .Just a short distance from this is the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, so named because it is situated midway between Monarch and Aetna cotton mills. This building has recently been completed and is a pretty frame structure that would do credit to any community. It is capable of seating about 500 persons. Rev. F. H. POSTON is the pastor. Lou HUMPHRIES a negro woman about 45 years old, who several weeks ago was committed to jail by Detective HALLOWAY of Columbia, charge with having burned a barn containing eight mules on Gilliam JETER's place in this county, has been released, as the indictment was withdrawn on account of there not being sufficient evidence to convict her. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. SUTTON of New York arrived in this city Saturday as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emslie NICHOLSON. Dr. J. W. FARR have returned from Florida to spend their vacation. Dr. FARR has been professor of English for the past two years in the state agricultural college at Lake City. Mrs. L. E.
