Good afternoon - I'm seeking help with a mystery that has stumped researchers of the Neville Lawson family for years - his wife Tempa/Tempe's family. I have found two possible matches in a Tempe Duke, daughter of Shadrack Duke and a Tempe Pridmore daughter of John Pridmore. I have not been able to turn up any wills or records concerning these men and have kept looking. I have been looking at the 1860 census again (for the umpteenth time!). Tempa Lawson lived in dwelling house #936, family #841, located in the Fair Forest post office district. In her household were three young men named Davis - William Davis, age 24, Carson Davis age 23 and Jefferson Davis age 21. I assume they are brothers. No relationship between Tempa and these three men is given. Their profession is listed as carpenters. Tempa was a widow by this time. It would seem strange to me that three unrelated men would be living in her household, especially with her listed as the head. Could these three Davis brothers be nephews or other close kin to Tempa? Who were the parents of these Davis brothers? This could be a clue to Tempa / Tempe's parents. Thanks!
