Hello -- I just recently joined the list. My Union County surnames/families are Lawson, Smith, Duke, Bailey, Drury and Littlefield. My 2nd great-grandparents migrated from Union County to Cherokee County, Georgia in the mid-1850s. They were Nevel Riley Lawson, the son of Neville Lawson and Tempe Unknown and Rebecca Smith, the daughter of Thomas Smith and Amanda "Amy" Duke. Below are my three major Union County lines - Lawson, Smith and Duke. Lawson Tempia Lucinda Lawson (great-grandmother) Nevel (Neville) Riley Lawson (2nd great-grandfather) Neville Lawson (3rd great-grandfather) Sion Lawson, Sr. (4th great-grandfather) William Lawson (5th great-grandfather) Smith Rebecca Smith (2nd great-grandmother) Thomas Smith (3rd great-grandfather) Leonard Smith (4th great-grandfather) William Smith III (5th great-grandfather) Duke Amanda "Amy" Duke (3rd great-grandmother) Major Duke (4th great-grandfather) Joseph Duke (5th great-grandfather) ~ and~ Priscilla Duke (4th great-grandmother) Major Duke (5th great-grandfather) Joseph Duke (6th great-grandfather) My two big mysteries right now are mothers in my Lawson line. Researchers are divided over which William Lawson marriage Sion Lawson, Sr. was born to. I think he was the son of Susannah Bailey due to the great number of "Baileys" in subsequent generations -- too many I would think for the name to be a "step" relationship. (It's only a hunch and not proven, though!) Tempe/Tempa Lawson's maiden name is unknown. I think she was the daughter of either Shadrack Duke or John Pridmore -- both these two men had daughters born in Union County around 1800 named Tempe. I have been unable to determine who either of these women married (or if they married). I have also tried to find either Shadrack Duke or John Pridmore's will, but no luck so far. Hope to hear from new "cousins" soon!
