Mickey - My ancester, James Jefferson Briggs, who we believe is the son of John and Hannah Briggs of Union Co, SC, married Rebecca George, daughter of Thomas George, of Union Co, SC. This is mostly assumed from the following deed: 16 Apr 1816, Union Co, SC - John & Hannah Briggs Sold 225 acres incl mill for $1,255 to Thomas George. Bounded Pacolet River on N. by Portman's Creek on W by Wm. Hames [also our relative], Coleman Fowler [also related through dau's marriage to Timothy Haney], & a tract owned by the said George on S & by land belonging to Mr. Giles & the said Thomas George on E..... Witnessed by Timothy & James Haney..... Also, there is a later deed where Thomas George deeds some land to his son-in-law, James Jefferson Briggs, etc. Since this land is on the Pacolet River and Portman's Creek, that would seem to be in the northern part of Union Co., whereas the Briggs you refer to is living in the southwestern part of Union Co., maybe near Cross Keys? We do not know anything about John and Hannah Briggs, such as, other children, born / death records, etc. Do you have any information that might suggest our John Briggs might be the same as your John Briggs?
