Dear Al, You are really making me think here we need to exchange info we have. I might have hidden info you need and vice verse. I've been collecting info for about 10 years on Addis. I have the most info about the Addis from SC, GA, TN, AL, and NC. I have rev war papers, Wills, articles, and some pictures. The problem is they're in boxes. My computer crashed and I got a new one but since my old one was so ancient, the new one won't read the old file. I spent yesterday and today pulling all my files. It's time I put them back on my computer. I would love to have all the info on the Jonathan family your researching because I do think he could be the John. I can't prove it but I believe the one of the Simon's was the son of a James Addy(s). This family is related, I just know it but can't prove it. Jacob Benet (?) was an Addis and a brother to John and Richard. Though you won't find a paper trail to find it. I found it because Jacob Benet Addis final settlement was in Chattanooga Tn. He came down to SC after Tolbert did. He lived with a George Addy whose family settled Conneticut/Maryland/Pennsylvania and then down to SC. He was a relative. This George Addy was also a son of James Addy(S). From SC Jacob migrated to Chattanooga Tn. I have personally met his Descendants because my family ended up 20 miles south of Chattanooga in NW Ga and one day looking in the phone book I found the Addis name and I called them. Went and met them. I found that Richard from SC had went to visit Jacob. He met and married his second wife in 1810 in Chattanooga, Tn. I have this marriage record and I have his will and his revolutionary war papers. I have a lot of info on this Jacob but I'm still waiting on more that they are going to give me Thanksgiving when I go up for a visit. You will find in SC that Samuel Torberts name was always spelled different with any of his legal transactions. These are the they way his last name is spelled. Torbert, Tolbert, Tobert, Talbert, Tabert, Tarbert. I don't have Torberts will but I do have probation papers where the children sold the land he owned. As those papers are written, Richard Addis was a witness that those children were the rightful heirs and had the right to sell the land but Richard was not entitled to the land. I've always been under the impression that he didn't leave anything to Richard. There was not another Addis listed in these records nor any other individual except his sons and daughters husbands. I can copy this for you. I want to send you a lot of other info but you need to write me directly and not through the roots web so I can send you attach files. At the bottem of this letter you'll find my e-mail. I will gladly give you anything that I have. My info on Addis's in Pa is very conflicting. I only have back to John the one that was Richards father and the one married to Mary Walton. After that I have collected info but it is so conflicting. One family says he's from the Thomas you found and others say from another Richard. I have no clue who Johns parents are and if you know I would love to know what you do. I'm researching now that John the one that married Mary Walton possibly was one of 4 brothers that came to America. James, John, Thomas, and William George (he went by William and then George after getting into trouble). I don't think they all came together but within years of one another and at one time or another the families had had dealings together. If they are not related then there are 4 Addis's that came in to America within years of each other. When James of the 4 died he still had a son under age named John that was left an orphan. sheayalu@bv.net Lu ----- Original Message ----- From: "Al Addis" <addis@kwiknet.net> To: <SCUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 2:35 PM Subject: Re: [SCUNION] Roll Call: Torbert and Addis > > > Lu: > Thanks for the Addis anecdote - I hadn't heard it, so can't say if > it was true or not.
