My name is Joan and I'm searching for my great-great-grandfather, John Nelson (sorry, I don't have a middle name or initial for him). He was born in Union District, SC about 1808, moved to AL about 1830 and resided there until his death in 1861. He married Pertimary Russell b. abt. 1816 in Greenville District SC d. abt. 1848. John and Mary had 7 children, the eldest being William Colombus Nelson, my great-grandfather, who was born in Pickens County, AL, 7 May 1832, reared in MS, wound up in Grayson County, Texas. John Nelson was an extensive planter, a prominent man in his county and served many years as one of the county officials (don't know which state or county). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
