I have been researching the Faucett family of Union County and have been lucky enough to determine the maiden names of most of the early Faucett men through probate records where their wives are recorded in the estate settlement of a parent. Unfortunately, I have no marriage dates but did determine that Richard, Samuel and Giles Night Faucett married into the Whitlock, Smith and Giles families. All three of these marriages took place circa 1780-1800. You can usually calculate the year of marriage as one or two years before the birth of the first child. If your ancestors were Baptist you might be lucky enough to find church records at Furman University (Greenville, SC) for the church they attend that might include a marriage announcement. Methodist church records can be found at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. I doubt, though, that many church records survive before 1800.
