Does anyone know how far back records of marriage bonds can be found in Union Co.? I am hoping to get a copy of the marriage bond of Joseph Moorhead and Lydia Clanton, sometime in 1790 or 1791. Thanks, Sandra

Sorry, Sandra, neither the State of South Carolina nor the counties kept marriage records until about 1910. They considered marriages to be a matter for the Church. And that would have been fine except almost no Church records have survived. All of us are in the same boat on that one! One possible source of help is one of Brent Holcomb's books of "Implied Marriages." Other listers, suggestions?
