    1. [SCUNION] FW: good idea to stop spread of viruses
    2. Mildred "Mickey" Fournier
    3. This sounds so wacky that it's just got to work! Thanks, Tom. And the rest of you listers, here may be the solution to all our virus problems! Your list mom, Mickey Mildred "Mickey" Fournier PO Box 1967, Lake City, FL 32056 mailto:mfournier@atlantic.net -----Original Message----- From: Tom Landers [mailto:tlanders@hiwaay.net] Sent: Monday, March 25, 2002 7:54 PM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:@smtp-2u-1.atlantic.net; Subject: good idea to stop spread of viruses I got this from a friend of mine, thought you might like it too. I learned a computer trick today that's really ingenious in its simplicity. As you may know, when/if a worm virus gets into your computer it heads straight for your email address book and sends itself to everyone in there, thus infecting all your friends and associates. This trick won't keep the virus from getting into your computer, but it will stop it from using your address book to spread further, and it will alert you to the fact that the worm has gotten into your system. Here's what you do - 1) Open your address book and click on "new contact" just as you would do if you were adding a new friend to your list of email addresses. 2) In the window where you would type your friend's first name, type in !000 (that's an exclamation mark followed by 3 zeros). 3) In the window below where it prompts you to enter the new email address, type in WormAlert. Then complete everything by clicking add, enter, ok, etc. (In AOL mine worked under first name, !000 WormAlert) Now, here's what you've done and why it works. The "name" !000 will be placed at the top of your address book as entry #1. This will be where the worm will start in an effort to send itself to all your friends. But when it tries to send itself to !000, it will be undeliverable because of the phony email address you entered (WormAlert). If the first attempt fails (which it will because of the phony address), the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected. Here's the second great advantage of this method. If an email cannot be delivered, you will be notified of this in your InBox almost immediately. Hence, if you ever get an email telling you that an email addressed to WormAlert could not be delivered, you know right away that you have the worm virus in your system. You can then take steps to get rid of it! Pretty slick huh? If everybody you know does this then you needn't ever worry about opening mail from friends.

    3. Take my word for it!! This worked on some of the first worm viruses, but the misguided briliant programers who produce these nasty viruses have long since found how to defeat that tactic. There is no substitute for good anti-virus software (and that ain't gonna come for free). If you don't update your anti-virus software at least weekly, it quickly becomes as useless as "tits on a boar hog" These people love it when we novices programers think we have found a loop hole in their game. If you try to outsmart them alone without the help of the friendly experts (anti-virus programmers) you will lose big time. Be sure to adhere to the three most important rule of data security. 1. Back up your files often 2. Back up your files often 3. 1. [SCUNION] Newspapers at Ancestry
    2. Mildred "Mickey" Fournier
    3. I just received this from RootsWeb and thought it might interest those of you who subscribe to Ancestry.com. Actually, it will probably be free for the first few days as their databases usually are. ================================================================== HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS ARE COMING TO ANCESTRY.COM ================================================================== Have you ever wondered what life was like for your ancestors during the Civil War? The Roaring 20's? The Depression? Newspapers can give us a window into their world, revealing what the nation was thinking about during these and other historic eras. In addition, newspapers can also give us important details about the ancestors we seek. Wedding and birth announcements, obituaries, school graduation and military appointments are all chronicled in our nations newspapers. In the next few weeks, Ancestry.com will be bringing these valuable genealogical resources as close as your home computer, launching an entirely new subscription collection of historical documents. Never before available at this level of convenience or quality, our Historical Newspaper Collection will begin with newspapers from the western frontier in the 1870's, the Midwest at the turn of the century, and the long time standard of our nation's news, The New York Times (1857-1866). We will start with 100,000 newspaper pages and add 1,000 pages per working day to keep the collection growing. With over 50 million pages slated to be posted, we will soon have the largest collection of historical newspapers ever assembled. Our free viewer software allows you to see these pages in the comfort of your home, with all of the convenience and power you have learned to expect from Ancestry.com. The Newspaper Collection is fully searchable, and individual pages can be saved to your home computer or printed for your family history files. At Ancestry.com, it is our goal to make our collections available at a very reasonable rate. This new collection may not interest all researchers and so is being offered as a separate subscription. This keeps the overall price of our core services affordable. Current subscribers to any of our collections can add a Historical Newspaper subscription at a greatly discounted rate. This new offering comes at an exciting time at Ancestry.com where, as announced a few weeks ago, our core data subscribers will be seeing more and more images accompanying new datasets at no additional cost. In addition, census subscribers will be seeing exclusive images of the 1930 U.S. Federal Census going on line within hours of its release. The new Historical Newspaper Collection promises to be just as exciting and valuable to researchers. It is a non-profit group to help individuals and groups access information about Oregon and it's history. Our site includes free services such as "look-ups" on Oregon, newsletter and a guest book. We also have books at low prices covering Oregon cemeteries, Oregon towns and World War II. At Historical Oregon Information Services we hope that this may be of some use to members of your group. Our "Look-Ups" on Oregon page covers towns, rail stops, ferries, stage stops, hard rock mines and schools as well as other types of places in the state of Oregon. In the future we will have cemeteries also listed. In most cases we have included any of the above listed items that pertain to the location name. This, however, is an ongoing project and updating our files is being done constantly. Under the name of the location, in most cases, we have the county in which it is located, Post office, Rail Road, location and any pertinent information regarding the location name. Our newsletter is sent out bi-weekly and has information pertaining to Oregon and its history. In the newsletter we cover such things such as name changes, multiple places with the same name, postal changes, new links, information about a place and other pertinent information about groups and their activities. We have link pages on genealogy and Oregon history. These links are listed in alphabetical order under appropriate headings. There are pages for genealogy and Oregon history with more headings to come in the future. 1. [SCUNION] Sims family
    2. Sally Webster
    3. Hello. I'm glad this forum exists. I'm writing a book about the SC McCaw families (1753-present). An early McCaw in SC was John McCaw (1753-1825), the first Clerk of York County. One of his daughters, Sarah McCaw (1801-1882) married William A. Sims of Union County. I'm tracing their children and their descendents, among other people. One daughter Delia (Adelia, Deliah) is said to have married George J. Steele; another, Charlotte, married either R. T. Davies (Davis) or J. T. Davis (Davies) [different newspaper accounts have different first initials]. A third daughter, Julia, married Samuel (?) Rainey, Jr. of Yorkville. Two sons, Clough L. Sims and Edward T. Sims fought in the War Between the States. We have differing accounts of how many children Wm. A and Sarah had, and the Sims family cemetery near Neal Shoals offers its evidence, as well as an 1850 Census record. I'd like to examine baptismal records to try to make sense of this, so my most pressing Sims question right now is what church or churches did the Sims family (Wm. A and Sarah and their young children) attend? Cheers, Sally Webster --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
