    2. To Judy - I am in Arlington, Texas. Born and raised in this area. My grandfather was John Bogan (Birdie Mansfield) who came toTexas around l860. He came from Jasper County, Georgia and was the son of John Bogan (Rebecca Farrow), the grandson of Isaac and Easter (Farrar) Bogan, great grandson of John Bogan (Hannah Griest), and great great grandson of William Bogan (Elinor Graham) who was the progenitor of my line here in the (what was then) the colonies. We believe the family came from Ireland but cannot find primary documents to prove this. But who wants to complete their line...too much fun trying to trace. Good hunting. Helen

    2. Thank you so much, I'll thrilled to get all the information and so glad that my post answered a question for you. Apparently Elizabeth had a sister named Abigail and a daughter. Will keep you posted on anything else I discover as I trudge through this pension. It's some of the worst writing I've ever seen. What state are you located in? Just my curiosity, love to know where people are. Judy

    2. Re: Nathaniel Rogers. born l767 in Kent Co. Maryland, died 1835. Am delighted to find Mr. Rogers and wife with daughter, Elizabeth who was marrried to William Bogan. William Bogan is my line and I had never know Elizabeth's maiden name. My Bogan family lived in Fair Forest Creek Area, Union County, SC. Your Daniel Palmer statses Elizabeth was widow of William Bogan. My records show this William Bogan died in l831 - buried Bogansville Methodist Cemetery, Bogansville, SC. Elizabeth, widowed, was living in l840 in Union County--correct as far as I can find. William Bogan was the brother of Isaac Bogan and they were the grandsons of Isaac and Easter Farrar Bogan--Elizabeth's husband's family but still her grandchildren. William and Elizabeth had children: William, Jr., Elizabeth, Nancy, Mary, Parmesa and Abigail who married a Thompson. All I know about an Abilgail Steen is that she witnessed a deed for William and Elizabeth, so there is an Abigail Steen in the area - date-wise and area-wise. William and Elizaabeth have a daughter namned Abigail but she married a Thompson-could be a second marriage to a Steen--they were in the area. I know this goes off from your Rogers family and you might not be interested in Elizabeth's kin, but I am pleased to find my William Bogan's wife's maiden name: Elizabeth Rogers. Elizabeth was lucky--reading the poverty of her father--to have married into one of the large property owners in Union County. Have records showing she sold off land and lived comfortably in Union, Union County, SC for many years. Let me know if you want anything else. Happy to find our connection. Isnt it a small world--even now? Luck, Helen (Hebopoatt@aol.com)

    1. [SCUNION] new to list
    2. Hi all, My name is Judy and I married a Rogers from Jefferson County, AL. I had been researching my family surnames for several years and decided to see if I could find anything on his families. Looking in particular for the surnames Rogers (also found as Rodgers), Salter and Norris. They all seemed to show up in Jefferson County, Alabama by about 1840. At that time, where some of them lived was close to Bibb Co. and Tuscaloosa Co. and I found some of them in those counties. Nathaniel Rogers, born 1767 in Kent County, Maryland, served in Revolutionary War and received a pension until his death in 1835. He was married to Cely or Celey about 1783 in Mecklinburg Co., NC. A Daniel Palmer states, "In 1787 they were in Union District, and had a daughter named Elizabeth who married William Bogan". They also had another daughter, and the writing is very hard to read, but it looks like Sallie, but not positive about that. Don't have the papers or my notes in front of me, but do remember someone saying they lived in the Fair Forest Creek area. In 1840, Daniel Palmer states "Elizabeth who married William Bogan and is now the widow of William Bogan, deceased, living near Union County Courthouse in the District and State aforesaid, he was well acquainted with ? (couldn't read this name), William and Isaac Bogan whose names are recorded in a book in the possession of Elizabeth Bogan, the daughter of the said Celey Rogers and know them to be the grandchildren of the said Celey Rogers and Nathaniel Rogers, deceased and believe the records to their ages to be true and genuine and further states that he saw the names in the presence of Zephenia Posey. This document is somewhat hard to read, as most, some pages easy to read, some not so easy. Another bit of information, not researched yet: "The following petition was located in a box of miscellaneous records in the office of the Probate Judge of Union County. Nathaniel Rogers Sr. does not have an estate file listed in the index to the Union County estate files. The petition was filed 2 July 1857. South Carolina Union District In The Court of Ordinary To: B. Johnson, Esqr. Judge of the Court of Ordinary in and for the District aforesaid. Whereas the Humble petition of Nathaniel Rogers, Jr. Respectfully Sheweth that his father Nathaniel Rogers Sen'r Late of the District and State aforesaid departed this life intestate on the _ day of _Eighteen Hundred and __Leaving himself, John Rogers, Elijah Rogers, Elizabeth Bogan, Abba Steen and Nancy Reader him Surviving that at the time of his death he deeded off to Your petetioner all of his Estate both Real and Personal and if he Left any Estate at the time of his death it did not exceed ten Dollars in value. Your petitioner is desireous of becoming the administrator of the Said Estate and prays that Letters of administration be granted to him Nathaniel Rogers Per C. H. Dillard his atty. (qall spelling as it appears here)" If anyone has any information on these Rogers, Bogans, Steen or Reader, please contact me. Judy Holladay Rogers Clarendon County, SC Surnames in SC: Holladay, Tobias, Lowder, Johnson/Johnston Surnames in AL: Rogers, Norris, Salter (so far have Rogers back to Union District, SC and Salter back to Abbeville, SC)

The heirs are listed by State and then County, if the county was given in the documents. This is not a complete list as many heirs living outside Henderson were no identified by their residence. 2. I do not know of a web site for Ninety- Six District. 96 was redistricted several times--Spartanburg and Union and, I believe, Berkley, were carved out of this larger area. Your search will be determined by your dates of inquiry. I do have some Wade background info--Wades were in Chesterfield County, S.C. in the l790-l800 time period. Then Wades back to Anson County, N.C. Let me know if I can help. Do give me as many dates and places, first and last names, spouses that you have. Makes matching a possibililty. Helen
