    1. [SCUNION] FW: [NW-AL] To the Mothers on the list (off-topic and I don't care)
    2. Mildred "Mickey" Fournier
    3. This is from Sue Elliot, list Mom of the Northwest Alabama list. She's a nice lady so I'm sure she won't mind if I share this with all of you. And let me add my own wishes to all the Moms among you and to your Mothers. Your list mom, Mickey -----Original Message----- From: Sue Palmer~Elliott [mailto:palliott@quik.com] Sent: Sunday, May 11, 2003 2:02 PM To: NW-ALABAMA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NW-AL] To the Mothers on the list (off-topic and I don't care) Happy Mother's Day to each and every mother, mom, mommy, ma, nana, granny, mammaw, grandma, memaw or whatever it is that is your unique title given you by your children and grandchildren...this is for you. >From Sue List admin. This is for all the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Kraft dinner and wieners, birthday cake, and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's OK honey, Mommy's here." Who have walked around the house all night with their babies when they kept crying and wouldn't stop. This is for all the mothers who have shown up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse. For all the mothers who have run carpools and made dozens of cookies for school teas and sewn Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who HAVEN'T because they're at work trying to keep on top of the bills. This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes and all their love. This is for all the mothers who have frozen their buns off on metal bleachers at hockey, baseball or soccer games any night of the week instead of watching from their cars, so that when their kids asked,"Did you see me?" they could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and meant it. This is for all the mothers who have yelled at their kids in the grocery store and swatted them in despair when they stomped their feet like a tired 2-year old does, who wants ice cream before dinner, and then hated themselves for "losing" it. This is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and explained all about making babies. And for all the mothers who wanted to but just couldn't. For all the mothers who read "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year. And then read it again. "Just one more time." This is for a all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead. This is for all the mothers who taught their sons to cook and sew and their daughters to be brave and strong (and sink a jump shot.) This is for all mothers whose heads turn automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home. This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away. And they do. This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, and who can't find the words to reach them. For all the mothers who bite their lips sometimes until they bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green. What makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The a ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time? Or is it the heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time? Or the terror in your heart at 1 AM when your teenager with the new driver's license is an hour late getting home. The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2A.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby? Or to feel the dull ache as you look in on your sleeping daughter or son the night before they leave for a college in another city. The need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying? For all the mothers of the victims of all the school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting. For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely. This is for mothers who have tearfully placed flowers and teddy bears on their children's graves. Whose children have died from illness, accidents and the worst of all and hardest to comprehend, suicides. This is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation. And mature mothers who have learned and are still learning, to let go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married mothers. Grandmothers whose wisdom and love remains a constant for their grown children and their children's children. For Mothers with money, and Mothers without. This is for you all. So hang in there. Please pass this along to all the Moms in your life. "Home is what catches you when you fall - and we all fall." Please pass this to a wonderful mother you know. Notes for LETTICE YOUNG: All of Jeremiah's children were born of his first marriage. They were: Lettice; Thomas B.; Isaac; John; Jeremiah Jr.; and George Young. Isaac Gregory of St. James Parish, Lunenburg County, Virginia (later Mecklenburg County), registered his earmark for his livestock in April Court, 1761. (Order Book 6, p. 256). Isaac Gregory bought fifty acres of land from Nicholas and Tabitha Robertson of Lunenburg on 7 May 1762. The land (Recorded in Deed Book 7, p. 294, on 6 July 1762) was located on the lower side of Mitchell Creek. The witnesses to this transaction were: Joseph Dobson, John (X) Johnson and Jno. Dobson. Isaac Gregory and his wife, Alse, sold fifty acres of land in Mecklenburg County to John Hatchell. This land was located on Eastlines Creek (same as Mitchell Creek). The deed is recorded in Book 1, p. 115, 9 August 1765. Alse signed the Dower, 12 August 1765. The price paid by Hatchell was £25. This deed was witnessed by Jacob Bugg, John Goode and Lucy Bugg. (It should be noted that Isaac also witnessed a deed of John Hatchell executed on 2 August of that year.) The tithable taken by Edmund Taylor in St. James Parish, Lunenburg County, Virginia and later reported in Early Settlers of Mecklenburg County, Virginia list Isaac Gregory: one tithe due for 1764 on fifty acres. Isaac, his wife and at least two children moved to Mecklenburg, North Carolina where he was granted two hundred acres by Governor William Tryon on 26 October 1767. (North Carolina Land Grants File 2189, Grant 248, Book 23, p. 125.) The land was located, according to the description found within the grant, on the south side of the Broad River on the South Fork of Brown's Creek, above the "waggon" road. A boundary dispute between North and South Carolina was settled a short time later and this tract of land became part of Union District, South Carolina. The tract was entered in the Auditor General's Office of South Carolina, 30 September 1772, due to this annexation. (South Carolina Memorials, p. 432.) Isaac obtained a Royal Grant in South Carolina as well. The second grant, another two hundred acres, was also located on the South Branch of Brown's Creek in Craven County (RG v. 17, p. 89, 12 December 1768; RP v. 39, p. 275, 20 June 1768). A third grant (Union County Deed Book D, p. 296) yielded another two hundred acres in the same area to Isaac. The deed (recorded 5 May 1773) reflects Little Brown's Creek as the location.

Since we have photos of my father and siblings in the yard during that time frame, we would love to go to that house. Does anyone know if Gault Avenue still has houses up? It appears to be south of Main Street (perhaps near a cotton mill) and runs east to west in between Pickney and Gage, north of Cohen. I appreciate it. Tammy Lynn Collard

    3. Jean aka John Burel or Burrell was born abt Nov of 1757--he was christened on Nov 1. He and Patience married 22 Feb 1785. He died 1825 Patience was born abt 1767 in Philadelphia (parents probably Jonathan Bird and Mary Blanche Ebair--not sure if that was her married name or maiden--she was married to an Acadianbefore Bird). Patience died after 1850--no one says where she is buried. Louis born 25 June 1886 (he may not be the first child --there is question that there were two Johns and one died and the other was named after him---Jean and Patience's first child was born the year before they married i.e. in 1784--perhaps Louis's dob is given wrong to cover that fact) Sarah Margaret Jenkins (daughter of Randolph and Deborah Darby Jenkins) was born 14 Nov 1800. She and Louis married Jan 1817. Louis died Hog Mountain, Gwinnett County, GA Jan 1872--buried Hog Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery--Sarah died 14 Nov 1895--buried same place. Randall Randolph Jenkins was born Pimmit Run(Fairfax County), Virginia 1 July 1761 or 62. He married Deborah Darby probably abt 1787 (some Darby books say much earlier but in 1790 they only have two boys under 16--Samuel (my line) was born Nov 1789). Deborah was born abt 1770 in Maryland or Virginia--- sometime before the Darbys came to Union County they were probably in Virginia--they had to meet the Jenkins before they came to Union County. Randall died --well his will was proven 5 April 1824---buried Goshen Hill District of Union County (all the Jenkins, Darbys, Burels, Liphams lived in this district) Deborah after 3 Sept 1821 (when her father's will was proven) and one assumes before Randall since she is not mentioned in his will--(some sources say Randall had 5 children by a second wife--but I don't see how unless he and Deborah divorced). I don't have much on Lucy and Elisha Davis (Lucy daughter of Louis Burel and Sarah Margaret Jenkins) Lucy was born 1831 (wonder if she wasn't born earlier) Elisha was born 1818 Union County or NC. They moved to GA with rest of Louis' family 1832--my source says Lucy died in Randolph County, AR abt 1912 Elisha died in Winona, Missouri but no date is given. Lee Caldwell-Owens

    2. Hi Charles, Thank you for answering. I believe my Robertsons had already left SC as land opened up in GA (Land Lotteries) and after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, most headed for Louisiana and got land mainly in the section of LA that was owned by Spain, know as West Florida. However, it was in the early 1800s. The land was in East Baton Rouge Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Washington Parish, and other Parishes. We are in a different time period in SC. Thanks for your prompt reply, Betty
