    1. [SCUNION] Roll Call and New List Administrator
    2. Mildred "Mickey" Fournier
    3. In about 15 minutes, Joe Harrington is going to become the adminstrator of this list. In the meantime, however, I made a promise that I would call for a Roll Call this month. So, let this be my last official act. Please post your Union County families and let's find some new cousins! And thanks, Joe. 1. [SCUNION] New list administrator
    2. Mildred "Mickey" Fournier
    3. As most of you have probably noticed, I have not been giving this fine list the attention that it deserves. I have some health problems that are interfering with my ability to even sit here and type. Therefore, I am hoping to find a new Mom (or Pop) for the list. It really isn't hard work. It involves: 1) Helping somebody subscribe or get unsubscribed. This happens maybe once a month when something goes awry at RootsWeb. 2) Stepping in if someone starts abusing the list by posting Spam or insulting other list members..a VERY rare occurence. It is occasionally necessary to ban someone from the list either temporarily or permanantly. 3) When things get slow, starting a conversation by posting information, asking questions or starting a "roll call." In other words, it ain't rocket science. I'm the least computer savvy person you will encounter and I've done it for several years. Thanks! 2. Carson and Betty's genealogy research
    3. The Gowdeysville township of Cherokee County was part of Union County prior to the 1897 formation of Cherokee and is a present township. I've not looked at the census reports of Draytonville township but would expect that this area too was part of Union county before the division to create Cherokee. The challenge of research then is to understand that 1) census and other written reports for the area will be listed as in Union County and 2) the churches, schools, and cemeteries will be found in present Cherokee County. Since most of the extant cemetery transcriptions were published after 1900, they will show that the area is Cherokee County even if a burial occured before 1897 in what was (at the time) Union County. Further, that area around Gowdeysville was near the then border of Union and York -- several families appear to have attended churches that were then in York County. Albeit, a part of York County that later became Cherokee County. Cherokee County was created in 1897 from parts of Union, York, and Spartanburg Counties. 1. [SCUNION] Nancy Crocker Pridmore
    2. Susan Johanson
    3. A brick wall cam tumbling down yesterday when a Pridmore descendent who is new to genealogy emailed me with the name and birthdate( from her family records)of Nancy the wife of Thomas Pridmore (1794-1878) of Union Co. SC. She was Nancy Crocker born 2/6/1802, died 11/21/1857. This Nancy Crocker was my ggg-grandmother. I have always thought that Nancy's father's name must have been Jacob because she named her oldest son Jacob, and the name Jacob was not used in the Pridmore family. There was a Jacob Crocker who was in the right place at the right time. He was listed in the 1810 and 1820 census and he was in Union Co. by 1803. This man is probably Nancy's father. 1820 CROCKER, JACOB minister at Scull Shoals Baptist church in early 1800s Union County, SC 134 022201-11001 This Jacob Crocker was also a preacher at El Bethel Baptist church in 1802 and moved over to Scull Shoals in 1805, both churches in the area of Union Co. where the Pridmores lived. (Many Pridmore descendents were members of the Scull Shoals and El Bethel Church). In 1828, Jacob Crocker moved to Pickens Co. AL where John Pridmore ( father of Thomas) moved. I got this information from the Union Co. Heritage book. I just checked the 1810 census and Jacob did have a daughter under 10. There is also a Hopkins Crocker who was a cousin of Jacob who had a daughter under 10. With Nancy naming her oldest son Jacob, my gut feeling is that her father was Jacob Crocker. Any information about the Crockers of Union Co SC especially Jacob and Hopkins would be appreciated. Thanks, Susan -- -- Susan C. 1. [SCUNION] Simeon ROGERS
    2. Lynne Ramsaur
    3. In searching for my ancestor, Simeon P. Rogers, I just recently learned that he may have come from Union Co., SC and was possibly the s/o William A. Rogers, Jr. (although a listing from Rootsweb.com does not show him.) Simeon was b. 1804 SC. From the Pickens famiy history, I see that he was an overseer on Col Robert Pickens' estate in Three & Twenty, Anderson Co. SC. He married the d/o Col Robert and Martha (Patty) Smith Pickens, Margaret (Peggy) Pickens in 1832. Peggy was b.1816. About 1844, Simeon and Peggy moved to Forsyth Co. GA where I find they are buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Simeon d. 1896 and Peggy in 1915. Simeon and Peggy had 11 children: Nancy S. (1833-1845) William Jefferson (1836-1864) Mary Ann (1838-1921) Robert Pickens (1840-1920) Martha I. (1842- Sara S. (1844-1944) - Aunt Sallie lived to be over 100. James O. (1846- Margaret E (1848-1913) Julia A. (1850-1942) Emeline Franklin (1853-1918) - This is my line. Emeline married Seaborn Madison Westbrook and moved to Cherokee Co. GA Levi Wesley (1854-1890) After searching for many years, I am hopeful that someone has run across my Simeon and can help me verify his parents. I would appreciate any leads. I know this will not go through as I have been blocked from the lines, but have talked to the Consumer Protection Dept. of the Attorney General's Office that wants a copy of all my e-mails to and from Ancestry.Com, and any other persons who have had this problem. 3. Readers! It is very important that if you subscribe for the 14 day "free" trial offer...that you "Call" Ancestry's Office (they provide you with the number when you subscribe) and "cancel" your account. That is a must or you will continue to be billed.
