Wondering if anyone has any info on a Francis Marion ADAMS, born 1828 Union Co. to Martha "Patsy" Adams (unmarried). She also had 2 other known children: a son: J. Washington Adams b. 1831, (married Mary Ann Tracy) and a daughter: Caroline Adams- married Thomas Burgess. Martha was a daughter of Charner Adams. Court documents show she indentured Francis Marion to Landlot (sp?) PORTER, when F.M. was an infant and to last until he was 21 years old. Wondering if Porter could be F.M.'s father. I have court documents that name the fathers of her other children. BTW, J. Washington ADAMS - named above named a son Francis Marion - born 1859. Thanks, Lisa
Does anyone know of this man? He is on the 1880 census for S.C. Gregg Township, Aikens County. thanks, kathy thompson Kjt54@aol.com
The older Ambrose Ray married Elizabeth Holcombe, born 1748 and died 11 March 1831. Ambrose (born ca 1740, 1798) moved first to GA where he fought in theRev. War with the GA Troops for which he received a land grant. He is buried at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church, Union, SC. His will did not mention the younger Ambrose. I have Hannah Williams connection and there is no Tempe in her line. I will double check wills etc. that I have from SC and see if there is a Tempe mentioned anywhere, but it is an unusual name. Good afternoon - I'm seeking help with a mystery that has stumped researchers of the Neville Lawson family for years - his wife Tempa/Tempe's family. I have found two possible matches in a Tempe Duke, daughter of Shadrack Duke and a Tempe Pridmore daughter of John Pridmore. I have not been able to turn up any wills or records concerning these men and have kept looking. I have been looking at the 1860 census again (for the umpteenth time!). Tempa Lawson lived in dwelling house #936, family #841, located in the Fair Forest post office district. In her household were three young men named Davis - William Davis, age 24, Carson Davis age 23 and Jefferson Davis age 21. I assume they are brothers. No relationship between Tempa and these three men is given. Their profession is listed as carpenters. Tempa was a widow by this time. It would seem strange to me that three unrelated men would be living in her household, especially with her listed as the head. Could these three Davis brothers be nephews or other close kin to Tempa? Who were the parents of these Davis brothers? This could be a clue to Tempa / Tempe's parents. Thanks! Rebecca Bannister rbannister@comcast.net Union County surnames: Lawson, Smith, Duke, Bailey, Drury

Hello, I'm trying to find some information on my Gordon ancestors. I just recently found that I desend from a Benjamin Gordon, and his wife Mary. I have that Benjamin was born about 1765 in Newberry Co. S.C. He and his wife Mary had three children that I know of. John C. Gordon b. 1788 Union Co. S.C. Thomas Gordon b. ? Union Co. S.C. He moved to Upson Co. Ga. Elizabeth b. 1793 Union Co. S.C. I descend from Elizabeth, who married a William Virden or Verdin. She died about 1870 in Upson Co. Ga. I believe the Virden's or Verdin's were also from Union Co.S.C., and migrated to Warren Co. Ga., and on to Upson Co. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! This came from a list put out by "The Institute of Advanced Loyalist Studies" It was there Index to Loyalist Muster Rolls. So doing your research look up Loyalist Muster Rolls. Also if you come across any Addis info with the Hughs please let me know of it. I don't know all of Richards daughters that how I got into researching all of Richard Addis's neighbors. I'm not sure but I think you Sarah's last name may be Enoch. There was an Enoch family that lived by them for a while. I'm trying to find the land transaction to find the first name of the Enoch that lived by them. I don't know why I think this other than I might have seen an Enoch marriage to a Hughs. I'm still pulling papers and will continue to look. Sorry it's taking me so long but I have mounds of papers to go through. At one time I had all this on computor but that computor crashed and when I got my new one and tried to put the saved file on, my new computor can't read the file because the old computor was so ancient the new computor can't read it or open it. I now have 10 years of work that has to be put back on the computor. Thank God, I saved all the papers that I collected over the years. Dear Al, You are really making me think here we need to exchange info we have. I might have hidden info you need and vice verse. I've been collecting info for about 10 years on Addis. I have the most info about the Addis from SC, GA, TN, AL, and NC. I have rev war papers, Wills, articles, and some pictures. The problem is they're in boxes. My computer crashed and I got a new one but since my old one was so ancient, the new one won't read the old file. I spent yesterday and today pulling all my files. It's time I put them back on my computer. I would love to have all the info on the Jonathan family your researching because I do think he could be the John. I can't prove it but I believe the one of the Simon's was the son of a James Addy(s). This family is related, I just know it but can't prove it. Jacob Benet (?) was an Addis and a brother to John and Richard. Though you won't find a paper trail to find it. I found it because Jacob Benet Addis final settlement was in Chattanooga Tn. He came down to SC after Tolbert did. He lived with a George Addy whose family settled Conneticut/Maryland/Pennsylvania and then down to SC. He was a relative. This George Addy was also a son of James Addy(S). From SC Jacob migrated to Chattanooga Tn. I have personally met his Descendants because my family ended up 20 miles south of Chattanooga in NW Ga and one day looking in the phone book I found the Addis name and I called them. Went and met them. I found that Richard from SC had went to visit Jacob. He met and married his second wife in 1810 in Chattanooga, Tn. I have this marriage record and I have his will and his revolutionary war papers. I have a lot of info on this Jacob but I'm still waiting on more that they are going to give me Thanksgiving when I go up for a visit. You will find in SC that Samuel Torberts name was always spelled different with any of his legal transactions. These are the they way his last name is spelled. Torbert, Tolbert, Tobert, Talbert, Tabert, Tarbert. I don't have Torberts will but I do have probation papers where the children sold the land he owned. As those papers are written, Richard Addis was a witness that those children were the rightful heirs and had the right to sell the land but Richard was not entitled to the land. I've always been under the impression that he didn't leave anything to Richard. There was not another Addis listed in these records nor any other individual except his sons and daughters husbands. I can copy this for you. I want to send you a lot of other info but you need to write me directly and not through the roots web so I can send you attach files. At the bottem of this letter you'll find my e-mail. I will gladly give you anything that I have. My info on Addis's in Pa is very conflicting. I only have back to John the one that was Richards father and the one married to Mary Walton. After that I have collected info but it is so conflicting. One family says he's from the Thomas you found and others say from another Richard. I have no clue who Johns parents are and if you know I would love to know what you do. I'm researching now that John the one that married Mary Walton possibly was one of 4 brothers that came to America. James, John, Thomas, and William George (he went by William and then George after getting into trouble). I don't think they all came together but within years of one another and at one time or another the families had had dealings together. If they are not related then there are 4 Addis's that came in to America within years of each other. When James of the 4 died he still had a son under age named John that was left an orphan. sheayalu@bv.net Lu ----- Original Message ----- From: "Al Addis" <addis@kwiknet.net> To: <SCUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 2:35 PM Subject: Re: [SCUNION] Roll Call: Torbert and Addis > > > Lu: > Thanks for the Addis anecdote - I hadn't heard it, so can't say if > it was true or not.
