I am a member of quite a few groups there and own five. They offer a brilliant, and always improving service with far more functionality than Rootsweb. Unlike some, they discuss possible improvements with users in advance (on a group called "beta", which anyone can join), and do seriously consider users' suggestions for improvements. Many people, like me, would not want to make the move to Facebook or Google groups, which in any case both offer an inferior service. Also, unlike the two mentioned, they make no commercial use of users' personal information, and take privacy seriously. 1. [SCT-WIS] Origin of Finlay (Philip) Morrison(Harris to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia))
    2. J ROGER MACPHERSON
    3. I am trying to find the origin of my great great grandfather Finlay Morrison, who emigrated from Harris ca 1826 with three sons John, b. Approx. 1807, Kenneth b. Ca 1811 and Donald ,b. Ca 1819. I have not found the name of his wife. Finlay was known as Philip. The emigration year of 1826 is taken from the entry for son Donald in the Nova Scotia census records of 1901. Family lore says that they spent some time at Grand River, Cape Breton before taking up a grant at Loch Lomond. Harris rental lists for 1818 as shown in the book “Selection of Source Documents from the Isle of Harris 1688-1830 by Bill Lawson show a “Finlay Morrison and son” at Rha in Taransay ; and another Finlay Morrison at Kirktown Pabbay. Neither are shown at those locations in 1830. I am descended from Finlay’s son Donald, who married Ann Morrison, daughter of Neil Morrison (smith) and Rachel Shaw in 1845. The sons of this family were farmers and skilled carpenters. I would be grateful for any information on where Finlay and his family came from in Harris, and any record of his wife. I don’t know if she came to Canada or if she died in Harris. Roger MacPherson Sent from Mail for Windows 10

Uist, Scotland. My wife's grandparents were Joseph Alexander & Catherine (Piermantier) Black. They married in Carman, Manitoba in 1922. Joseph was the son of Duncan Charles & Margaret (Johnson) Black who moved to Manitoba from Grey County, Ontario in 1879/80. Duncan Charles' father was Joseph Black. Joseph's father was John, and his father was Neil. Therefore we're in the process of tracing back to the 6th generation Neil & Mary (White). I believe Neil was born circa 1741 but haven't any more info. You had mentioned in one of your posts that this was before records were kept. So I'm wondering if this is a dead-end? Also, do you know when Joseph (b. circa 1808) & family emigrated to Canada? We are relatively new to tracing our families and would appreciate any assistance you could offer. Thanks.
