What does the "M.S." stand for? <snip> Hi Kevin, Sorry, perhaps I should have attempted to set out the transcription of John SHERIDAN's death registration a bit clearer. I have confused you with that raw format. Arnsheen was the parish of residence of John's son, Peter SHERIDAN, who was the informant. Peter's residence was Knockycoid, a farm in that parish. Knockycoid is in Ayrshire, which is the county immediately to the north of the county of Wigtownshire, Scotland. The census returns for both 1861 and 1871 state that John SHERIDAN was born in Ireland, so its likely that his father was from Ireland, but we can't be sure of that, or if he also went to Scotland. John's parents were both deceased at the time of his death. M.S. is an abbreviation for maiden surname. Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask further questions. Regards, Bruce
