    3. Hi Kevin, Welcome to the Wigtownshire mailing list. Looking at the family of John SHERIDAN & Elizabeth PRINGLE in the 1871 and 1861 census, I see that he was born in Ireland. The family were living in a cottage on the farm of Glasnick, parish of Penninghame is both 1861 and 1871, and their last born child Elizabeth was born 31 Aug 1872 in that parish, so I figured that's likely where he died in 1873. Turning to < http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk>, I see from the index that a John SHERIDAN died in that parish, age 44, in 1873. I just happen to have the details of that registration on file: John Sheridan, Ploughman, married to Elizabeth Pringle 1873, March seventh, 8h 0m am, Laigh Glasnick, Parish of Penninghame M[ale] 44 years (Parents) Peter Sheridan, Packman, deceased _ Sheridan, M.S. _, deceased Pneumonia & Gangrene of Lung, as certified by R. B. Selby M. D, & Surgeon (Informant) Peter Sheridan, Son, Ploughman, Knockycoid, Parish of Arnsheen Arnsheen was a Quoad Sacra parish, the church being in Barhill village, Aryshire. Knockycoid farm is on the B7027, about 4 km SE of Barrhill as the crow flies. Low (Laigh) Glasnick farm is about 22 km SW of Barrhill as the crow flies. It is 2 km NE of Kirkcowan village. According to both the 1861 and 1871 census, Elizabeth PRINGLE was born in the parish of Wigtown. From the index at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , Elizabeth McKAY other surname PRINGLE, died Kirkmabreck parish age 74 in 1905. It will take 6 credits o download the details, which should give the names of her parents. Hopefully the informant knew. (It seems that her son Peter SHERIDAN didn't know who his father's mother was.) When I tried to find her in the1841and 1851 census, the closest match I found was a 19 year old purported have been born parish of Mochrum in the 1851 census for Mochrum parish. Interestingly, she was a servant with one of my families, namely Anthony DICKSON & Catherine ROUTLEDGE. Regards, Bruce

    3. Also John, does this mean that Peter's wife was also deceased at the time of John's death?  What does the "M.S." stand for?  Have fun. Kevin   Kevin A.
