She had a child, John Duncan, out of wedlock around 1846. In the 1851 census 5 year old John is living with his uncle, Peter McWhirter, in Ayrshire. Peter's place of birth is Stoneykirk, Wigtown. Tracking back, it seems that Jane/Jean and Peter are children of William McWhirter and Letticia Dalzel. Is my thinking correct? And is William McWhirter the son of Patrick McWhirter and Jean Kennedy?
