This question should have read: "Were the parents of John McHARRIE b abt 1813, John McHARRIE the dyer & Isabella CAMPBELL?" The reason I asked is that I found the following death registration, which appears to fit: Stoneykirk deaths 1863 No 18: Isablla McHARRIE, Widow of John McHARRIE, Farmer 1863, March Twenty fifth, 2 hrs A.M., Clachanmore F 75 years Robert CAMPBELL, Farmer (deceased), Isabella CAMPBELL, M.S. NIBLOE (deceased) Debility, Some Months, As Certified by C.M. ROSS M.D. Stonykirk (sic) Robert McHARRIE, Son (Present) 1863, March 25th, At Stonykirk, Thomas KENNEDY, Registrar This has John McHARRIE snr as a farmer, but he may have been both farmer and dyer. Everything else fits well. This is also supported by Ailsa, who has posted a message to the Wigtownshire Mailing List re her ancestor William McHARRY.
