Living at Dyer's Mill, Kirkmabreck. In the parish of Stoneykirk. This is about 10 miles south of Stranraer. When I look at the census of 1841, what strikes me is the ages of him and wife Isabella, and the ages of the children they have living with them. I descend through Robert in that census. I have notice another John McHarrie, at East Cairngaan. In the same census, his age suggests to me he could be the son of John (the dyer). There is another John McHarrie (6months) living with a McMurray family. In a later census 1851. This John is with his father at East Cairngaan. I live in Stranraer itself, I know these places could be walked to with a few hours. Or a lot less by horse and cart. Today by car 15-20 minutes on these country roads.
