I have been researching my family for years and it can get very confusing with the proliferation of John McHarries , not all related to each other. In the mid 1800s in Stoneykirk there were three separate and unrelated McHarrie families. In my family John McHarrie was born in 1784, son of George and married to Isabelle Campbell. He was a Dyer and lived in Kirkmaiden and did have a son John. I am descended through John's son Robert (1831), then Andrew (1860), then Wilf (1889), then Dennis (1916), my father. I believe son John emigrated to the Isle of Man and had a large family including another John. I did here tell of one sibling who emigrated to Australia New Zealand?? My g.g. grandfather Robert also had a son John....My McHarrie family all lived in the Kirkmaiden/Stoneykirk area of Scotland. Some actually lived in Stranraer, including William and his large family. William was a son of the original John (1784. ) Some moved to Kirkcu! dbright. I don't think this is actually helping you in your search but if I find out more I will post it.
