Neglect by the individual ministers/church clerks, paper deterioration, water damage, ledgers being lost/stolen etc are some of the many reasons why large gaps were found to exist when the parish records were collated into a central point in 1855. Similiarly, the records of the Catholic Church (Bernard Mooney is an Irish name) are also far from complete. All of these parish records (COS & RC churches) are held at the Scottish Record Office, and can be accessed via their website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk The indexes are free to explore, and unfortunately the marriage of Bernard Mooney & Mary Alexander does not appear.
