    1. Re: [WIG LIST] Sasines of Wigtown
    2. Patricia, I checked the film [mentioned last month] having Sasines [#217086], however its an INDEX only. Everything is listed alphabetically by Residence [townland, farm name etc] with each name having a short list of numbers referring to the pages of the actual Sasine book. Its beautifully written and quite readable, filmed in the negative, white lettering on black pages. Sadly it does not seem that the actual Sasine BOOK was filmed. Just the INDEX. Strange. So these reference numbers have nothing to follow up with. There aren't even any years with the placenames. Here are examples from page 1..... WIGTON [yes, its spelled clearly this way] Index of Places to Abridgment of Sasines 1781-1820 Achork, 234 Aird, 149. Airdfield vide Airthfield Airdrie, 1161, 1170, 1298 Airielick, Airieleg, Loch of - 299, 444, 954, 970, 971, 1194, 1195 Mill of - 954 Airiequhat - 103, 457, 525, 785 etc..... ============================= So this research avenue is a dead end for this film. However I do see a film that will be ordered....298553 which is Sasines for Wigtownshire. Here is the description of the film . Will order, it takes about a month to get in and then will report. Anyone else seen this film or the actual book ??? Possibly this book is held locally as you suggest. Wish it was more specific on years covered for the Sasines, its suggested below that it only covers 1862 and '63 however its not clear. Is there a local researcher who could read it and record details for us? If so how do we go about expediting this? Thanks for any advice. 3. Back in 2001 Bill Copland enlightened us about Wigton vs. Wigtown: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SCT-WIGTOWNSHIRE/2001-10/1002530302 "According to the Trade Directory of Wigtown produced in, I think, 1837 the name of the Burgh had traditionally been Wigton, but the Burgh Council changed it in order to avoid postal confusion with Wigton in Cumberland. Too many important letters were taking too long to arrive because they tended to go to the other Wigton first."
