However there are indexes in Dumfries, probably now at the Ewart Library, there have been changes made there recently with the Archive centre closing and everything moved to the Ewart.Hope this helps,Diana Henry > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SCT-WIGTOWNSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
The Dumgal website says the Archives hold *Sasine registers, indexes and abridgements, for Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire from 1617. * The abridgements pretty much cover all the information you need to know about each transaction. The indexes are in printed volumes, each covering 10 years ... indexed in one volume by place and in another by person. The index volumes give a reference which can be used to find the relevant abridgement in yet another volume. The NRS in Edinburgh, on the other hand, has a computer index whereby one can search over dozens of years and then it's just a click from index to abridgement. Magic compared with wrestling with large tomes :-) Irene On 6 December 2013 16:15, Malcolm Lockerbie <malcolmlockerbie@hotmail.com>wrote: > Diana is quite correct see the attached link > http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2300 > > Malcolm > > > From: dianahhenry1@outlook.com > > To: sct-wigtownshire@rootsweb.com > > Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2013 16:07:39 +0000 > > Subject: [WIG LIST] re SASINES > > > > > > > > > > To the best of my knowledge there are no Sasines locally, they are all > held in Edinburgh.
