Hi Listers, you have been highly recommended by lister Patricia McQueen as being a friendly lot, so Ive brought my problematical 3 xgreat grandfather over to you to see if he made it into your area. I first have knowledge of him from the 1851 census when he's in Kilblain Street,Greenock aged 53 and gives his birthplace as Ireland and occupation as shoemaker. With him in the same household are Eliza Picket formerely Orr age 36 and her son John Orr aged 15, both born Ireland. Mary Picket age 14 and Ann Picket aged 12 also born Ireland Eliza Picket aged 1 born Greenock and apprentice Michael Collogreen age 15 born Ireland. His death certificate makes it plain that before Eliza Orr( whom he did not in fact marry untril 1853) he was married to Mary Brady, and the two daughters Mary and Ann are of that marriage, but what happened to her? Did they come to Scotland together and she die? It has been suggested that he may well have come to the Wigtown area as an agricultural labourer from Ireland as he was described as a labourer on his death certificate, so I would be grateful if anyone with access to the 1841 census for the Wigtown area could check and see if he's to be found. with Mary nee Brady or Elizabeth Orr. His parents again according to the death cert. were Robert Picket a mason and Mary Mc Fadyern has any lister any knowledge of this couple? Thankyou, Linda in Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
