Dear List, I am at present re reading the "Reminiscences" of Peter McCaig of the Mye. It is a typed copy, I don't know who typed it. (Thanks to the McCaig family at Kilhilt). It is a wonderful account, It is amazing that he remembered so much Son of Peter McCaig and Elizabeth Milroy (of East Galdenoch) Peter was born at High Mye, Stoneykirk Parish on 23rd October, 1872 and spent his early years here then after many adventures he settled in Sunnyside Yakima, USA. I think I have this right. Not sure if Sunnyside is village or farm or what it is. He describes many aspects of life in Stoneykirk parish at that time. Here is a small passage regarding John Henry which might interest the Henry researcher on the List. "Like a great many of the little fellows of my early days my clothes were tailor made by the tailor in the village of Stoneykirk, Johnny Henry, who would come to the farm house, measure, cut the cloth and fit. Comparing his work with tailoring of the present day it was somewhat crude. The cloth used was not home spun, as was the case in many farm homes of those day, but came from one of the county woollen mills and wore like leather". Also the farm hands on the Mye at that time were the McQuillans (or McQueelans) and the Withers - Tom Wither (Tam Wuther). Bratton, Blaney, Agnew (Anthony or Anton). I hope this has been of interest.
