Dear Listers--I am working on my Scott family and I see that there are clearly 2 groups of Scotts in the 1851 census. One is the Drummoddie group, and I'm quite convinced that they are all related and our family, and the other is listed as Glasserton Mains. Can anyone tell me what that means? And also, what does Drummoddie Cot House mean? Is the Cot short for cottage? Also, in the 1841 census, I see the family listed at Glasserton Ecclesiastical Parish, Balcraig Whitefields. Can anyone tell me what the latter means? As ever, many thanks, Lynn in Fla. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Hello Lynn I think I can answer your question about Balcraig Whitefields as I too had ancestors living there in the 1841 census. There are in fact several Balcraig references: Balcraig, Big Balcraig Balcraig Moor and Balcraig Whitefields as far as I am aware they were farms owed by the Maxwells of the time. I actually had the pleasure of being able to visit both Big Balcraig and Balcraig Moor a couple of years ago. We were warmly welcomed by all and actually managed to speak to a relative whom we did not know about. I have not visited but note that there is a 1949 Survey record at 25 inch scale for Balcraig Moor Farm. Part of Mochrum Parish is included which may be a useful search prospect for rellies "missing" in the Glasserton registers. Cheers, ALISTAIR M.
