I could nor find any records in the OPR (at Scotlandspeople) or IGI (at scotsorigins.com-familysearch.org) for a marriage between her parents nor christenings/baptisms for any children. Hello, I am a new member of the list and I am researching my ggg-grandmother Horatia Porter. From records I found on Scotlandspeople.com she was born in Newton Stewart (I hope I spelled this correctly) around 1839-1841. Her father is Thomas Porter (b: 1815 Girthon, and his father is James Porter). From the marriage record for Horatia (she married Thomas Affleck in Buittle, Kircud May 20, 1859) I got her father's name, but her mother's name is illegible. Thomas remarried another woman around 1843 named Agnes Davidson, and they had 3 children (also found that info on Scotlandspeople). My dilemma is reading the name on Horatia's marriage certificate. Is there anyone that can actually see a microfische or the real certificate in our group? Or are there any Porter relatives out there? Horatia immigrated to the U.S. around 1887 and eventually settled in New Haven, Connecticut with her 3 surviving children (John Porter Affleck, William Porter Affleck, and Agnes Porter Currie). Her daughter Agnes had 8 children, and a lot of information on the Curries is all over the internet. If anyone has information on either the Porters, Afflecks, or even the Curries, that would be great. Thanks a million!
