    3. New to the list - my interests are with the family of James CRAIG and Jean McHAFFIE in Mochrum. Jean McHAFFIE married James CRAIG in Glasgow in 1805. They had three children Alexander (b.1807), James (b.1809) and Charles (b.1811) in Glasgow; then moved to Mochrum where Margaret (25 May 1814), John (4 August 1816) and Jane (16 July 1818) were born. For the children born in Mochrum, the OPRs indicate they were born at "Dirrie". In the 1841 census I located Jean and her two youngest daughters at "Dirry Farm". In 1851 there was just Jean (a widow) at "Derry", and in 1861 at "The Manse" Mochrum (she was recorded as Jane). Jean/Jane died in Mochrum Village, 19 June 1862. Her parents were listed as Alexander McHAFFIE and Grace HERON (I think it's Heron). From ages given in the census and at her death, she was born between 1779 and 1882, and according to the 51/61 census, in Mochrum. Husband James CRAIG was a Tailor, and I guess he must have died before 1841. No idea as to where or when he was born. Although I eventually hope to get to Mochrum in the future I would appreciate any help the list can offer. I have located a Derry on old maps, to the North East of the Carlin Stone and Eldrig Loch. Was it a hamlet? It seems a long way from everywhere else to be a base for a Tailor! Assuming her husband died while they were living at Derry, where is the most likely place he'd have been buried? Also, given that Jean/Jane died in Mochrum village, would she be buried in the churchyard there? What was "The Manse"? Are there any Trade directories that may have listed James Craig? Thanks to anyone who can help. Dave _________________________________________________________________ Turn searches into helpful donations.
