I am researching Edward (McMullen) McKenzie born abt 1787 in Dumfries(shire) as stated in 1851 census. He is first identified living Middlesex and later moves/dies in Greenwich in 1874. He gave the second christian name McMullen to his three eldest sons, John, George and Edward. The McMullen name suggests a McMullen female relative, perhaps a mother or grandmother and possibly an Irish background. Edward states in the 1871 census he is from Aberdeen(shire) but he was over 80 then and had his grandson staying with him on census night which may explain the discreptency or it could be he lived in Aberdeen(shire) before moving to London. I can find no record of an Edward born at this time anywhere in Scotland. I have found two possible family connections in Wigtounshire as follows: 1). Extract from 1841 census Stoneykirk :- Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks MCKENZIE Charles M 29 Ag Lab Wigtownshire MCKENZIE Elizabeth F 32 Wigtownshire MCKENZIE William M 7 Wigtownshire MCKENZIE Isabella F 4 Wigtownshire MCKENZIE John M 2 Wigtownshire MCKENZIE Charles M 3w Wigtownshire MCKENZIE John M 60 Ag Lab Ireland Page: 1/7 MCKENZIE Isabella F 20 Wigtownshire The above names re-occur in my tree. This family is also found on 1851 census living at Leswalt where John is shown as a visitor. The family is also on 1861 census but without John. This John born abt 1781 so a contempory of my Edward. 2. I have found a baptism record for an Elizabeth McMullen born to James McMullen and Barbra Credie 12/07/1748 in Glasserton. (spelt Elezabeth on OPR's). This record suggests that at least one McMullen family lived in the area at about the right time although this Elizabeth could be either a mother or grandmother. Elizabeth is also a recurring family name. I therefore need to make a connection between a McKenzie and a McMullen, or between John and my Edward. Can anyone out there help ? Mike McKenzie.
