Hi Glenn, Did you also look at the 1861 Wigtownshire Census? The family are living in Stoneykirk Joseph 43 b. Ireland Dairy Man Margaret 37 b. Ayrshire Plus all 7 children you and Wayne mentioned born to that date. There was also a Helen McDowall 22 b.Dailly, Ayrshire Dairy Woman I cannot find the family in Scotland in 1851 presumably in Ireland as son John was born there in 1850 On the 1841 census there are 2 Margaret Downies in Ayrshire I age 15 Servant in Coylton 1 age 14 Daughter in Dailly( the same place that Helen McDowall was born!!) Margaret was 55 on the 1881 Canadian census so she could be either of the above?? Hope this helps.
