Extracted from the Minute Book of the Magistrates and Town Council of the Royal Burgh of Stranraer Commencing the 3d day of November 1846 and ending 28th day of July 1863 7th October 1854:- At a Meeting of the Magistrates and Town Council of the Burgh of Stranraer held this date. Present Alex. McNeil Caird (Provost in the Chair) William Galbraith William Gibson John Orgill Peter Maclean Alexr. McLelland David Kennedy James McDouall William Murdoch Murdoch Jeffray Andrew Irving George Todd Alexr. Douglas The Clerk also laid upon the table the statute 17th and 18th Victoria, cap 80 entitled "An Act to provide for the better Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Scotland" and the town council having regard to the 8th and 66th Sections of the said Act, and to the fact that William Galbraith is Session Clerk of the Parish of Stranraer do hereby unanimously appoint him Registrar for the whole District comprehended within the Boundaries of the Burgh as described by the Act "2d and 3d William !V cap 65.
