Do you have both marriage and death registration for Elizabeth? Scotlandspeople has a Hugh PETTIGREW death in 1880, parish of Whithorn, age 87. This could easily be your man, so worth downloading to find out what information it gives. I doubt that marriage to Janet McFADYEAN is the one you are looking for. The only Elizabeth PETTIGREW of the right age in the 1841 census, and daughter of Hugh, appears from the census to have a mother Elizabeth. This is also consistent with the names given to Elizabeth PETTIGREW's issue to John CRON(E). The naming pattern is not proof on its own, but at least is an indicator that further consideration is due. This Hugh's wife Elizabeth must have died between 1841 and 1851.
