I am having trouble finding the area of another ancient castle and hope you may be able to help please. On Pont's map in the northern area of Penningham Parish, there appears to be "Ouer Castel Donnel" and "N. Casteldonnel" which may have later been part of the estate of Castlestewart of Ochiltree. On the 1782 map there are in the same area, south of the Cree Water : "Mickle Castle" "Castle Loch" and "Little Castle" western shore of Ochiltree Loch. This Stewart family may have gone to co. Tyrone in the time of the plantation of Ireland, and later be related to the Houston family of Craigs, co. Antrim, N. Ireland. It would be interesting if there are outlines of any ruins to be seen in an aerial view. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
