I can't find any record back in Scotland. I was told he had a sister, Janet, who also immigrated to NB."** I have seen various family trees for Alexander and Annie's New Brunswick family that identify Alexander as the son of Alexander NEILSON and Elizabeth ANDREW(S), born May 1849/1850 in Stranraer or Wigtown Parish... If this is the right family, then the sister reference you have (i.e., Janet) cannot be accurate. The daughter by that name of this couple (born ca. 1844-5) married John TODD in 1863, had a daughter Elisabeth "Bessie" TODD in 1864 and died of consumption at age 20 in April 1866. Bessie was taken in by her grandparents, Alex and Elizabeth. If it IS the correct family, then Alexander NEILSON of Newton Stewart, Penninghame Parish, Wigtownshire (Alex's father) died 27 Sep 1907 in Cathcart Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland at age 86. His wife, Elizabeth ANDREWS, died 17 Oct 1889 at Creebridge, Minnigaff Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire. The couple had 13 children--at least 5 of which died before age 5.
