He was born in 1860 to William Blain and Mary Ann Paterson in Kirkcolm. Then by the 1871 census, James had moved with his mother and brothers to Leswalt (Address: Burgescroft) His father had disappeared, his mother is listed as the head of the family and there were very young children so I am assuming he may have died in Kirkcolm in the late 1860's or 1870. (I can find nothing regarding his death however.) The 1881 Census still show James and his mother and family living in Leswalt (Burges Farm Cottage) James is 20 at that time. The next information I have is when James and his wife Lydia Blain (Lydia Weldon) are boarding a ship in Glasgow to come to Canada in 1888. Lydia was born in Rutland England. In 1881, she was a cook working in The Vicarage in Battersea in London. I can find no information re their marriage. Is there anyone out there who may have some ! additional information regarding this couple. Thanks, Murray Blain Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
