>From Wigtown Free Press "The Way We were" 31st May, 2007 1st June, 1882 "The head ostler at the Galloway Arms collapsed and expired at work on Saturday morning. James Cowan, aged 44, was sweeping the inn's stables when he fell to the ground. A gentleman went to his assistance but cold water did not bring him round. A post mortem made on Saturday night by Dr. M'Bride revealed heart disease. A widow and two children have been left." 30th May 1907 "A native of Stranraer now living in Pittsburgh celebrated her hundredth birthday. Born in 1807, Mrs Kerr-Agnew took a sailing ship to the U.S. as a teenager" 2nd June, 1932 "A former Stranraer native now living in Vancouver haw offered a generous donation towards the Garrick Hospital extension fund. Enclosed in a letter was $42 from Mrs B. N'Neil who used to live in Hanover Street in Stranraer. She read about the fund in one of her Free Presses sent over."
