Her parents Matthew WELDEN/WELDON, farm labourer, and Ellen Welden/Weldon, M.S. SMITH were both still living at the time of her marriage. So was James' mother, Mary Ann PATERSON Blain. James' father, William BLAIN, died 9 August 1862 at Airies in Kirkcolm Parish, Wigtownshire, Scotland. James' paternal grandfather, John BLAIN, died 9 Oct 1859 in Airies, Kirkcolm Parish, Wigtownshire. James' paternal grandmother, Rosanna McCLOY, died 5 Oct 1857 in Airies, Kirkcolm.
