Palmallet Dear Maggie, Palmallet is a farm on the B 7063 Garlieston to Isle of Whithorn road, near to Cruggleton church in the Machars. I have wondered how it got its name? Perhaps another lister can tell us. There is also a Palmallet Point which juts out into the sea there. 3. Hi Diana, It is an odd name. I always remember it as the spot where at some date, maybe in the 1500 or 1600s, Elspeth McKeand was tested for being a witch, being held under water, and didn't live long thereafter. They also stuck her with brass pins to make sure. Maxwell says that Palmallet means "barter pool" and was a place where drovers bartered cattle. Looking at the place, I'd wonder why they took them just there, but never mind. Crawford.

    3. Thank you very much for helping out with Palmallet, Diana, Nancy & Alistair. I would also like to thank Alistair for his 'guide to Scottish Research' as it kicked off my Scottish research many years ago. An old Sydney boy I see Alistair.
