Following the original by Diana, and subsequent postings by Mary and Jenny, here is a notice from the newspaper servicing the town of Maldon at the time: Tarrangower Times, Saturday December 8, p.2, col.5 IN MEMORANDUM At an early hour on the morning of the 6th inst., a much respected resident passed away from our midst - Mr Charles Hannay at the ripe age of 78. The deceased gentleman has for many years been a resident in Maldon, and will be remembered by young and old as a staunch adherent of the Presyterian Church, in the affairs of which he had always taken a zealous interest. He was ever ready with a kind and geneal smile and words of wisdom which made him a welcome visitor at many a cottage door. His name doesn't appear in the Victorian Probate Index, so he either didn't own much, or arranged things to avoid probate. Regards, Bruce
