I'm new to this list so thought I would post my interests in the hope that someone out there recognises some of these names and we can make a connection. This is just a brief overview of my connections in Wigtownshire. There is much missing info and still a long way to go with some of these lines, so I need more info so I can "put some flesh on the bones", as they say !!! My gt grandmother was Helen McCALLIE, born June 1881 in Garlieston, Wigtownshire, Scotland. She married William ENGLISH in 1901 and emigrated to New Zealand in abt 1914. Helen's parents were James McCALLIE an ag labourer (b. abt 1858 Whithorn, d. 1924 Creebridge, Kirkcudbright) and Margaret LITTLE a domestic servant (b. 1850 Sorbie, Wigtownshire, d. 1921 Sorbie), married in Oct 1874. Helen had the following brothers and sisters: John (Anderson) b. 1869, Stewart Donnan b. 1874, James b. abt 1877, Margaret b.1887, Catherine b. 1890. I have traced John (raised by his maternal grandparents) right throughout his life but have found no trace of any of the other siblings. James McCALLIE's parents were James McCALLIE a quarryman (b.abt 1823 -1828 Glasserton, Wigtownshire, d.1912 Glasserton) and Helen CASSIDY (b. abt 1825 Ireland ?, d. 1863 Whithorn), married abt 1848 Whithorn. Their children were: Hawthorn b. 1851 (m.Mary MAXWELL & Elizabeth CANNON), John b. 1855, James b. 1858 (as above), Catherine b. 1857, Edward William b. 1859, Annie b. 1862, (plus at least three other sons). After Helen died James married for a second time in 1863 to Sarah BROADFOOT and had: David b. 1864, Annie Pye b. 1867, Margaret Neilson b. 1869. James McCALLIE's (as above) parents were James McCALLIE a gardener / farm labourer (b. abt 1786, d. 1863 Whithorn) and Agnes NEIL (b. abt 1786 - 1791, d. bef 1864). Their children that I know of are: James (as above), a female, and Hathorn b. abt 1828. James McCALLIE's (as above) parents were William McCALLIE a carrier and Mary HUNTER. Helen CASSIDY's (as above) parents were Peter CASSIDY a lodging house keeper (b. abt 1786 Ireland) and Mary EVANS (b. abt 1796 - 1800 Ireland?, d. abt 1855 Whithorn). Their children that I know of are: Helen b. abt 1825 (as above), James b. abt 1827, Peter b. abt 1829, Mary b. abt 1831, Patrick b. abt 1833, John b. abt 1836. Margaret LITTLE's (as above) parents were Robert LITTLE an ag labourer (b. abt 1815 Ireland?, d, 1897 Garlieston) and Margaret McCULLOCH (b. abt 1818, d. 1897 Garlieston), married in 1838 Garlieston. Their children were: John b. 1838 (m. Helen LAMONT, children James, Isabella, Robert, Alexander, John, Margaret, John, William); Agnes b. 1840 (m. Stewart DONNAN, children Martha, Janet, Margaret, Mary, James, John, Isabella, Julia); Nathaniel b. 1842; Robert b.1844 (m. Jane RICHARDSON, children Agnes, Robert, Margaret, Mary, Bessie); Mary b. 1846; Margaret b. 1850 (as above) (m. James McCALLIE); Nathan b. 1852 (m. Margaret BRADFORD, children Martha, Lizzie, William, Robert); Richard b. 1854 (m. Margaret HANNAH, children Elizabeth, Annie, Margaret); Alexander b. 1856 (m. Elizabeth THOMSON); James b. 1860 (m. Elizabeth Hill SMITH, children William). Robert LITTLE's (as above) parents were John LITTLE a labourer and Susan COWAN. Their children that I know of include Robert (as above) and James b. abt 1844. Margaret McCULLOCH's (as above) parents were Gordon McCULLOCH a cobbler / linen weaver (b. abt 1785 ??? Kirkcolm, Wigtown, d. bef 1866) and Margaret KENYON (b. abt 1771 Ireland, d. 1865 Whithorn). Their children that I know of include Margaret (as above) and Mary (m. James NISH, children William, James, Mary) Margaret KENYON's (as above) parents were William KENYON and Jane McCALL.
