In 1503 Sir Alexander GORDON of Kenmure killed Sir John DUNBAR of MOCHRUM, Steward of KIRKCUDBRIGHT, (Stewartry of Kirkcudbright) and had to flee the country. He died 1513 at Flodden. (Barnbarroch Charters) 1557, Sep. 10. p.249. Contract Between Andro Dunbar of Loch (bro. of Janet Dunbar who m. William Adair ) and Archibald Mure (in Arewllane) his father-in-law. Andro (Andrew Dunbar of Kilconquhar) is to place and possess MARGARET GORDON (dau of .......................?), his mother, in 5 merkland of Carsdoquhen for her life and place Archibald Mure in the bailary of Mochrum barony for his lifetime, with power to hold courts, creaste officers and uplift unlaws and escheats and to poind and distrain, containing details of tenant's baillie work. Archibald MURE discharges Andrew DUNBAR for his wrongful intromissions with the whole terce of the 62 merklands of Mochrum barony since the death of PATRICK DUNBAR, his father, who died in 1547 (at Pinkie ?), and remits to Andrew DUNBAR all the tercelands of Mochrum barony pertaining to MARGARET GORDON, his mother, by reason of her late husband's death, providing that the 5 merklands of Cardoquhen be excepted terce (widow's 1/3 share) and with Margaret DUNBAR (nee GORDON) for life and the terce of Garquheries, the terce of 5 merkland of Carhollach and the terce of Gargaries. Andrew DUNBAR is to satisfy Adam Patersoun, occupier of the same, and bring to Archibald (Mure, father-in-law of Andrew Dunbar) Adam Patersoun's letter of tack. Witnesses: John Dunbar of Mochrum John Dunbar alias Blak John, and Hector Dunbar. Signed: Archibald Muyr in Arewllane.
