>From Wigtown Free Press 3rd May 2007 "THE WAY WE WERE" WFP 30th April, 1857 Honours from the Glasgow Royal Infirmary - On Friday last the annual distribution of prizes for the past session was made in the operating theatre. We observe the following gentlemen from this district among the successful competitiors - Senior Prize for the best report of lectures in clinical surgery, Ebenezer Fleming from Stranraer. He was awarded a valuable case of surgical instruments; for the best diagnosis, three cases of whisky; 2d prize was given to James Ross, Wigtownshire, and awarded "Miller's Practical Surgery." "The weather has been very wet and unsettled for weeks in this neighbourhood - the farmers were kept back from sowing or preparing green crop land. It's nearly a month later this year than the last one in getting our field work completed, and it is to feared meal will rise in price."
