It is for those of us whose ancesters ended up in New York from Ireland. (some by way of Scotland) When on Ancestry, go to search, and choose NY. Go to immigrants and naturalization. choose to look at all sites. This is the Emmigrant bank of New York, about 15 from the bottom of the list. It was only in business from 1850 to 1883, but if you can find your Irish ancestor there the info is overwhelming. For instance, one of mine, is listed this was: Catherine her mark X Delonghry or daughter, Cath her mark X Burke 42 Whitehall place, born 1798 Co Kerry (Tralee) widow of Patrick l daughter, Catherine b. 1823 married to James Burke. Ammended July 21/1868. Also included is the year of arrival (to Quebec) and the name of the ship. With this site we have been able to find two other sisters, one having "one brother in California, George" who just happens to be my 2ed g grandfather. Funny that it is a bank record and there is no mention of money transactions. Hope this helps some one else. Joan ------------------------------ I congratulate you that you have found useful information on this site. I have found that my family names are so common and the information so incomplete that there isn't much that helps me. But, my family from Scotland and Ireland who blended in Brooklyn, NY, were always in NY. I ended up in Florida, but my son is now back in NY and his window looks out on the Emigrant (Savings) Bank. There is a big red sign painted on the bricks on the side of the building. It's on Chambers St. in NY. He looks out, as well, on City Hall (Mayor's office) and the Brooklyn Bridge. This is territory that goes back to the 1600s and the Dutch in NY. I'm delighted for you that you found that information. Lynn in Florida No virus found in this outgoing message.
