Would Mary Robertson have been connected to descendants of James Robertsone & Co, who transported goods (and possibly passengers)to/from America on the ship "Salutation" of Stranraer, c.1716 ? .............................. Papers of the Cathcart Family of Genoch and Knockdolian, Scottish Archives, GD180/457. 16 Feb 1719. Certificate that James Robertsone & Co., merchants, have paid duty, on Virginia tobacco and barrel staves landed at Greenock, from Hampton, Virginia, America, on the 'Salutation' of Stranraer, at Greenock. Would the Dr.Cathcart family of North Carolina, America, (records in the National Archives of Scotland) and of Genoch, Wigtownshire, Scotland have emigrated on the ship perhaps with other families from Wigtownshire in the 1700s ? They appeared to be associated with the Rutherford family and Gov. Johnson of North (?) Carolina who married a daughter of Rutherford. Interesting is that Rutherford wrote to William Adair (Secretary for Virginia, based in London) who may have had connections with the Cathcart and Adair families of Genoch.
