Nicholas Merriwether died Dec. 19th 1772, and his widow married Chiles Tyrril Feb. 20, 1783. On Sept. 8 1784 they had a son, born to them, James Hunter Tyrril (or Terell) who was the 7th child of Peggy Douglass, inherited this manuscript of his grandfather, and left it to his adopted son and heir James Hunter Minor, whose only daughter I married, and whose widow, Mary W. Minor, now of Charlottesville, VA, who was also his heir, gave the said manuscript to me, Robert W. Lewis. The Rev. William Douglass was grandfather to my grandmother, Elizabeth Lewis, of Locust Grove, Charlottesville, VA. I inherited his library of several hundred volumes. Bishop Meade used this manuscript in composing his "Old Churches & Families of Virginia". I also own "The History of the House of Douglas" autograph copy of the Rev. Wm. Douglas, brought over from Scotland in 1750, showing him to be a lineal descendant of the Ducal House of Douglas (769 A.D. - 1490 A.D.). Signed by me, ROBERT W. LEWIS " Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.
