Hello. I am new to this list and hoping to contact descendants of James OZBURN/OSBURN/OSBORNE, ship's captain, born ca.1788,died (drowned ?) on or about 18th Jan 1828 when his ship THREE FRIENDS went down off the Irish Coast. He had a sister Janet OSBORNE born ca.1791 at Mochrum. In 1828 she swore that she was his only kin when settling his intestate estate.Janet died 12 Apr 1869 at Cairnbrock Farm House, Kirkcolm. Her death certificate named her parents as John OSBORN, farmer, and Elizabeth DOUGLAS. James OZBURN/OSBURN/OSBORNE fathered two children although there is no evidence that he married either of their mothers. His known issue was: (1) Elisabeth OZBURN bapt. 8th Jan 1808 at Inch. Father: James OZBURN and mother Helen NIELSON, both of Inch parish, Wigtownshire. (2) James OSBURN bapt. 18 Feb 1813 at Girvan, Ayr. Father James OSBURN "of Inch", mother Mary McQuiston of Girvan. Elisabeth married Peter MURDOCH and had five children. James junior married Wilhelmina DRYNAN and had six children. By 1841 Aunt Janet OSBORNE (ca1791-1869) was farming with James junior and she lived out her life with his family at Cairnbrock, Kirkcolm. She also maintained a relationship with her niece Elisabeth and in 1841 was looking after Elisabeth and Peter MURDOCH's first born, Janet Osborne MURDOCH aged 2 years, while the parents were residing or temporarily boarding at Fisher St., Stranraer. Best wishes to all. Mary
