In amongst some papers I inherited I found a letter from my GG Grandmother, wife of Alexander Hunter, "tailor and clothier" in "Garliestown" (now known as Garlieston). In it she is repremanding her children for not having been in touch (not sure which ones but perhaps her daughter Jessie Anne Patience Hunter who was married to a John Tennant.) I thought you might be intersted about a Mrs William McClure who called in for a chat. My family is closely lnked with Garlieston, Whithorn and Penningham. - Jose Written on Headed Memorandum paper, by hand but with no date but probaby about 1880 From A. Hunter Tailor and Clothier Garliestown Agent for T Shortridge and Sons, Dyers, Dumfries and the Singers' Sewing Machine Co. My Dear Children Do you for one moment think your father and I are void of paternal feeling. Here is Tuesday morning & not one word from those we hold so dear. Whatever is the reason do your father & I merit this at your hands. From (?) now let us have a letter as we are most anxious to hear from you. We are all well .... is hot working this week your father is making Mr Margous (?) Britches. He thought is was better to have them and be straight forward. Mrs Wm McClure was in a long time yesterday and says John and you are to be sure and stop a train or all night with them on your return home. Hoping to see or hear from you ever Your loving Mother . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Patterson" <[email protected]> To: "'Jim Patterson'" <[email protected]>; "Wigtownshire Roots Web list" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2010 1:32 AM Subject: Re: [WIG LIST] McCLure-McClurg-McLure from Wigs areas > Many thanks to those who responded to my recent McClure posting. > > > > Cheers all > > > > Jim Patterson > > > > Hiya listers, > > > > I am trying to connect two McClure lines at present and am far enough back > in time that records and details are hard to come by unless in the area it > seemsJ > > > > Line 1. > > James McClure born abt 1796 in Penninghame Parish, Wigtownshire, Scotland. > Or possibly Whithorn?
