I've gone up against a brick wall in my research for my McWilliam ancestors. The children of John McWilliam and Jean Mean (Main) were born in Portnessock: James, John, Robert, Susan and Elizabeth. My direct ancestor was Robert born in 1803. I have a birth for Jean Main as 1784 in Kirkmaiden, and can get her line back to Anthony Main born c 1670. The brick wall is her husband John McWilliam. There is no marriage for John and Jean - not even in the Kirkmaiden Kirk Session Records. Can anybody out there please help? Perhaps they married outside of the parish.
