    1. [WIG LIST] narrowing down the list dates! Re: Inch Kirk bell subscription list
    2. J Blain
    3. Thanks everybody who's sent comments or information. I was coming to think it was from 1750s or 60s. Then also found some things online about Robert Findlay, the minister - who's the first person named in the kirk bell list. He was called to the charge in 1739 and was there until November 1761, after his brother died in 1758. I found first his brother's death notice, which refers to Robert as minister at Inch, then the entry from Fasti, for Inch parish in the Presbytery of Stranraer. He seems to have been quite a star.. Here's the entry. 1739. ROBERT FINDLAY, A.M., son of Mr Thomas F., min. of Prestonkirk, had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh l0th Dec. 1734, licen. by the Presb. of Dunbar 5th July 1738, called 3d April, and ord. 26th July 1739 ; had D.D. conferred by the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th Jan. 17 61. Having succeeded to a considerable fortune by the death of his brother David, he was obliged to engage in business at London, which prevented his doing the duty according to his wishes and engagements, he therefore gave in his demission with regret on the 3d, which was accepted 18th Nov. 1761. He purchased the estate of Drummore, in East Lothian, and died 30th March 1782, in 43d min. He marr. 15th Aug. 1763 Anne eldest daugh. of John Don, Esq.; she died 3d Feb. 1771, and had a son James, Esq. of Wallyford, and a daugh. who marr. David Anderson, Esq. of St. Germans.-[Edin. Grad., Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.] (http://www.dwalker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Fasti%20V.2/p.%20364%20PRESBYTERY%20OF%20STRANRAER%20p.%20758.htm) So - I think ithe list is from the 1750s, though it might also be late 1740s. Excellent for me - it fills in a gap for the Blains at Dalhabboch, giving evidence for the James Blain whom I'd hypothesised should be there!
