    3. A member of my family, Robert McTaggart, was involved in a "riot" and as a result stood trial. My ggggrandfather noted these details: "It was the time of the French War and there was to be a militia drafted. Some young men suspecting that there would not not be fair play as the Sheriff McConnell was known to be rebellious ..... Robert, a man named Carnecham and some more men interrupted the Sheriff and some officers sitting in the (Wigtown) Court House engaged in the drafting. The rioters closed the doors and windows of the court house and stopped the drafting. A body of soldiers arrived from Newton Stewart and the draft conducted under the supervision of the Captain of the regiment. Robert and Carnecham were taken to Ayr where they stood trial for and acquited of rioting." Where we I go looking to confirm this story? Regards, Steve Sydney, Australia.
